Abrupt chlorophyll shift driven by phosphorus threshold in a small subtropical estuary

چکیده

Chlorophyll trends in subtropical and tropical estuaries are under characterized may reveal patterns not shared by their temperate analogues. Detection of requires long-term monitoring programs, but these uncommon. In this study, we utilized an 18-year chlorophyll- a time series from 2002 to 2020 Weeks Bay, AL, detect quantify chlorophyll variability over multiple scales. Our analysis included up 30 years contemporaneous data for variables such as river discharge, nitrogen, phosphorus relate the environmental drivers. We detected abrupt shift that was linked changes hydrology. The followed increase total concentration upstream primary system discharges into Bay. Total continued rise after shift, there no detectable change . propose exceedance threshold at 0.1 mg l -1 , combined with period very low discharge variability, induced This opposed pattern proportional usually observed result nutrient enrichment. Not all stations underwent which demonstrated complexity phytoplankton response drivers significance spatial differences even small estuaries.

Turbulent Measurements in a Small Subtropical Estuary with Semidiurnal Tides

Since predictions of scalar dispersion in small estuaries can rarely be predicted accurately, new field measurements were conducted continuously at relatively high frequency for up to 50 h per investigation in a small subtropical estuary with semidiurnal tides. The bulk flow parameters varied in time with periods comparable to tidal cycles and other large-scale processes. The turbulence propert...

Daytime Ozone Variation in Surface Air in a Subtropical Mangrove Estuary at Manakudy, South India

Surface ozone (SOZ) can be very harmful if it exceeds the threshold limit. It can accumulate over sea and can return back to the land along with the breeze. Rural and vegetation rich areas often record elevated levels of surface ozone because of the variations in Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) levels, wind velocity and direction. Similarly methane is also an important greenhouse gas and plays ...

Cavity Solitons in Driven VCSELs above Threshold

CSs have been theoretically predicted and recently experimentally demonstrated in broad area, vertical cavity driven semiconductor lasers (VCSELs) slightly below the lasing threshold. Above threshold, the simple adiabatic elimination of the polarization variable is not correct, leading to oscillatory instabilities with a spuriously high critical wave-number. To achieve real insight on the compl...

Turbulence measurements in a small subtropical estuary under king tide conditions

In natural waterways and estuaries, the understanding of turbulent mixing is critical to the knowledge of sediment transport, stormwater runoff during flood events, and release of nutrient-rich wastewater into ecosystems. In the present study, some field measurements were conducted in a small subtropical estuary with micro-tidal range and semi-diurnal tides during king tide conditions: i.e., th...
